Uncertainty Shows

Mood ALL 2020

I get it … we’re all nervous, right? What does the current state of this country mean for football season? I am certainly more of an NFL lady, but even the uncertainty of the college football season keeps me up at night.

I advocate and believe in the ‘football brings people together’ campaign. It is that thing we are certain of every year. For me it is my escape from everything else happening in the world. Multiple conversations throughout the work week consist of making plans for the “big game.” Whether you wake up on Saturdays and have a cup of coffee or crack open a beer at 10 AM, it is socially acceptable … during football season.

From tailgates to touchdowns, College Gameday to NFL Sunday Countdown, beers to burgers (or my personal favorite, nachos), debates to friendly debacles, comparisons to controversies … there is nothing like football season.

Remember making fun of all the ‘silly’ or ‘pointless’ Bowl games? I take it all back. I would watch a Las Vegas Bowl or Citrus Bowl game on repeat at this point.

Now, the college football season is in more of a limbo than the NFL season. What that means is that the odds of having a season are not in our favor. The odds of having an NFL season are in our favor, but things just do not feel the same … right? Each time I receive an update from ESPN or Bleacher Report on my phone regarding football I get eager, but there’s a constant in the back of my mind that asks the question if we’ll even have the normal season. Many of the offseason activities have been delayed or altered in some way, but we cannot let that bring us down. Are Zoom tailgates going to be a thing?

The Kansas City Chiefs are handing out money with zero doubt in their mind about this upcoming season (way to go, Mahomes!). Let’s take a moment to appreciate that never-before-seen deal between the Super Bowl Champions and the Super Bowl MVP. Incredible, and it says a lot about where this game is headed.

Enough chitter chatter, let me give you my hot take on this upcoming college football season … it’s inevitable that we won’t have one (I’m not purposefully trying to make you cry). I am not in support of this, but let me get my Stephen A on and explain myself. The Big Ten and Pac-12 announced that they would be going to a conference-only schedule. The Ivy League ruled out playing all fall sports. The SEC has yet to make an announcement, but is expected to make one soon. Time is ticking. Is everyone just prolonging the obvious? The preference of the conference-only schedule stems from the desire to eliminate long-distance travel. That does not eliminate travel as a whole though. If everyone is stuck on the idea of conference-only, what happens when playoffs are supposed to roll around? There is typically long-distance travel with that, at least for one team.

For the sake of this blog, I am pretending that the playoffs are not basically conference-only play (*cough SEC cough*).

Am I crazy for thinking that the NCAA needs to lay down the law in terms of what college football should do as a whole? After all, they are the governing body. If things are not uniform in all of this won’t it just feel … not real?

As you can see I have many question marks throughout this blog. I guess that means I do not know much. At this point, does anyone know much about what’s going on? Let me put it like this: If you play conference-only, just add on the couple extra games and play the whole season. If that seems too bizarre then do not play anything at all. One of the reasons I am confident in the upcoming NFL season is because everyone is on the same page, it’s uniform.

The purpose of my blog was not to offer a solution (what even is a solution anymore?), but to talk to you guys about … the game that we all know and love so much, and hope to be watching together in the fall.

For kicks and giggles I do have a couple teasers and predictions for this upcoming NFL season and no, they all do not have to do with my guys.

  • I am ecstatic to see what Patrick Mahomes will do. Their team chemistry looks even greater ... and they just won a Super Bowl together.
  • Kyler Murray and Nuk? You may call it jumping the gun a little bit, but they're an NFC favorite in my eyes.
  • Can Lamar Jackson be "better" than Mike Vick again?
  • Does Joe Burreaux have enough to begin turning around the Cincinnati franchise?
  • Is this the actual year the Browns get it together?
  • Dak is going to ball out this season (and Jerry needs to resign).
  • Bill with Cam? I am here for it. It's revenge season for him, my friends.
  • Tom is going to look weird in Tampa Bay ... but he'll still play like Tom.
  • Pittsburgh wins the Super Bowl.

Positive Impact of Social Media, What?!

This generation, we have all heard it before that social media is the devil. It's not just me, right?  Would it be crazy of me to bring light to the positive impact of social media? Some may say absolutely, but I am going to give it my best shot.  I know first-handed the impact of social media. From personal experience, I have felt extreme encouragement from social media; Twitter mostly. I would almost go as far as saying that Twitter is like my niche. A blessing? Yes, most definitely a blessing for me.  Twitter is an amazing opportunity for professional athletes and/or those who are in the business to interact with some of their greatest fans. And there are MANY that do just that!  Luke Winn, Senior writer for Sports Illustrated. With that being said, I would like to give my readers a few of my personal experiences that give me the right to say how much I appreciate social media. A couple of iconic people who I highly admire that have interacted ...

Broken Barrier

On February 26, 2021 a change was officially made in the WNBA that goes far beyond the hardwood.  History was made as a three-member investor group was approved to purchase the Atlanta Dream. Larry Gottesdiener, Renee Montgomery and Suzanne Abair make up this strong force that is this investor group. Montgomery has become the first former player to become both an owner and executive of a WNBA franchise. THIS, this is the breaking barriers.  Pressure began to fall on former Senator Kelly Loeffler as she angered many across the country, most specifically in the WNBA. Loeffler's outward opposition to the league's racial injustice initiative sparked players to push for Loeffler to give up her part-ownership of the Dream.  Yes, she had to go. Not only in her role as Senator but as part-owner of the Atlanta Dream.  What prompted Montgomery to begin considering this journey was a tweet from LeBron James. James mentioned the idea of becoming a part of such a group tha...

Rookie Status

Okay... I am rookie at this whole blogging business so if this first post is a little rough, that will remain my excuse. I thought that I would start out my first blog entry with what my whole Blogger name is all about; Engaging Sports and Personal News. Now, if you aren't new to the whole sports world then you might have an idea of why I went with the acronym, ESPN. If you are not familiar with all things sports, ESPN should sound a little bit familiar, but I will go ahead and give a brief background. ESPN is actually a Disney network. Everyone loves a little Disney, right?! I know I do! ESPN is, in a nutshell, a sports broadcasting network that will stream anything sports, 24/7. Different things within sports as well. Things such as entertainment going on within the sports world, whatever interesting that could be going on within teams, players, coaches, locker rooms... When I say, "all things sports," I mean it! So there's that. You might be putting a couple pie...
