Are You Too Hyped? Bring On The Madness.

Can I just tell you all how excited I am for all of this Madness to begin?

You all have your brackets filled out, right? Surprisingly enough, I have actually recruited a couple of my friends to fill one out who have never filled one out before... Let me repeat that; never filled one out! Yeah, I had to hear it twice, too. One of them filled out one bracket and wanted to do another one. It is quite addicting, isn't it? I have to do at least seven. One just isn't enough.

It seems like each year I get more and more excited. I take a look at this year's teams and the caliber of the players from most of the teams and I just think, "I wonder what CRAZY thing is going to happen this time... Or should I say crazy thing(S.)"

Louisville's celebration last year. Repeat?

There could be a number of upsets this year due to some underestimating, if you will, ranks. Maybe there will be a back to back Champion? Louisville has quite the potential to do it... As a number four seed. A number four?! That was something that caused quite the uproar on Selection Sunday. Louisville, 29-4, has had quite the season beating teams such as Cincinnati, a VERY impressive Cincinnati team, and beating Connecticut... Twice! They completely dominated the AAC tournament. When I say dominate, I mean it. Beating a team 92-31 was quite brutal... For the other team that is. It was just FUN for the Cardinals. Maybe like a practice? That's beside the point. I'm excited to see what the Cardinals do this March. Keep your eyes out for Russ Smith; the guy is crazy good at handling that ball. Oh, and of course the impressive and legendary Rick Pitino is quite the joy to watch come tourney time. Let's just hope for no gruesome injuries this go-around as well, deal?

Enough about the defending champs. Let me give a little break down of each region.

The Midwest part of the bracket might be the most exciting. With teams such as the Wichita State Shockers, Michigan, Louisville, Duke and Kentucky this will surely be... Fun. Kentucky is an eight seed. Are you ready for the upsets? Or, can the Shockers hold on to their undefeated record? Now that would be something to see; historical! I believe I speak for everyone when I say that we are excited to see what THE Diaper Dandy, Jabari Parker, is going to do throughout this tournament; his first Madness appearance. This impressive player just received National Freshman of The Year and has been called the best Diaper Dandy in the nation by the one and only Dickie V. What Dickie V says goes, correct? Yes. He is averaging 19.3 points per game and 8.8 rebounds per game. Look out, Midwest region. I believe Coach K and the Blue Devils are hungry for a Championship. Tennessee is a team that had to play in one of the First Four games and they have the potential to cause some trouble. Look out for the Volunteers. Michigan lost Trey Burke, but have still managed to stay strong and come in as a number two seed. Losing to Louisville in the Championship game last year, they might be coming in with a little chip on their shoulder. They might have to go up against the impressive Blue Devils, unless another Lehigh happens, but do not count them out; it's March.

Still painful to look at.

Let's move up to the West region. All I have to say for this region is one thing... McBuckets. Doug McDermott has proved to be pretty unstoppable when it comes to scoring. This senior is averaging 26.9 points per game. What! If they do not show up this March, I have feeling that they might be wrecking some brackets. I look for Oklahoma State to cause some trouble... Bracket trouble. Marcus Smart, 17.8 PPG, is one heck of a ball player. Let's hope no more scuffles get in his way. The number one seed in the West is Arizona. I wouldn't want to face the Wildcats, they are one tough team, but I'm sure that there will be at least one number one seed in the Final Four and those number one seeds don't end up playing number one seeds so which one will be knocked off? Did you get all that?

Officials seem to do that a lot while McBuckets is out there.

Moving across the bracket to the South region. This region includes the doom of the Gators. It may be hard to believe, but Florida does have some weaknesses despite having a record of 32-2. They most certainly have a limited volume of three-point shooting. They could possibly meet the UCLA Bruins in the Sweet Sixteen. Hey, the Bruins have proven to be pretty tough as of late. They are averaging 33.1 points per game in the paint. Florida is going to have to be on top of their scoring game. Even though it has been said that Andrew Wiggins has not lived up to all of his hype, the Jayhawks are in position to make a nice tournament run. They have shown much improvement in the latter part of the year. I believe that the most interesting match-up in this region is going to be the Ohio State Buckeyes against the Dayton Flyers... The battle of Ohio; and my bet is on the Flyers. Dayton is a very impressive scoring team. Ohio State is not. Aaron Craft may have tip-top defense, but is he going to be able to keep up? Oh the excitement of March. Are you too pumped yet?! Maybe VCU might make another run this year... What does Shaka have up his sleeve?

And finally; the East region. Go Chanticleers, right?! I know you all have a 16 seed wiping off number one seeded Virginia. Who am I kidding? I may 'bleed teal' as I attend Coastal Carolina University, but it's never been done in the whole history of March Madness. Wait a second... It's March. Who am I really kidding? Go Chants! I would like to see the match-up of the Michigan State Spartans and the Cincinnati Bearcats. Sean Kilkpatrick is hungry and is determined to go out with a bang. I would not put anything passed him. President Obama sure has confidence in those Spartans. Who doesn't? Everybody is on the Michigan State bandwagon.

Coastal Carolina; Big South Champs. Upset alert?

I could go on and on about what each team has to offer, but is there really a point? It's called March Madness for a reason. This means throw those records out the window, forget the ranks... What statistics? Anything can happen!
Maybe if we're lucky we'll see a sibling battle in the Championship game between the Wiggins brothers; the Shockers versus the Jayhawks? Don't doubt it.

So... How pumped are you now?! GO FINISH THOSE BRACKETS. Join a tournament, a poll, make sure you include some upsets and you might go away one billion dollars richer.

Jabari Parker and Rodney Hood have been dominating; just ask Dickie V.

Positive Impact of Social Media, What?!

This generation, we have all heard it before that social media is the devil. It's not just me, right?  Would it be crazy of me to bring light to the positive impact of social media? Some may say absolutely, but I am going to give it my best shot.  I know first-handed the impact of social media. From personal experience, I have felt extreme encouragement from social media; Twitter mostly. I would almost go as far as saying that Twitter is like my niche. A blessing? Yes, most definitely a blessing for me.  Twitter is an amazing opportunity for professional athletes and/or those who are in the business to interact with some of their greatest fans. And there are MANY that do just that!  Luke Winn, Senior writer for Sports Illustrated. With that being said, I would like to give my readers a few of my personal experiences that give me the right to say how much I appreciate social media. A couple of iconic people who I highly admire that have interacted ...

Broken Barrier

On February 26, 2021 a change was officially made in the WNBA that goes far beyond the hardwood.  History was made as a three-member investor group was approved to purchase the Atlanta Dream. Larry Gottesdiener, Renee Montgomery and Suzanne Abair make up this strong force that is this investor group. Montgomery has become the first former player to become both an owner and executive of a WNBA franchise. THIS, this is the breaking barriers.  Pressure began to fall on former Senator Kelly Loeffler as she angered many across the country, most specifically in the WNBA. Loeffler's outward opposition to the league's racial injustice initiative sparked players to push for Loeffler to give up her part-ownership of the Dream.  Yes, she had to go. Not only in her role as Senator but as part-owner of the Atlanta Dream.  What prompted Montgomery to begin considering this journey was a tweet from LeBron James. James mentioned the idea of becoming a part of such a group tha...

Rookie Status

Okay... I am rookie at this whole blogging business so if this first post is a little rough, that will remain my excuse. I thought that I would start out my first blog entry with what my whole Blogger name is all about; Engaging Sports and Personal News. Now, if you aren't new to the whole sports world then you might have an idea of why I went with the acronym, ESPN. If you are not familiar with all things sports, ESPN should sound a little bit familiar, but I will go ahead and give a brief background. ESPN is actually a Disney network. Everyone loves a little Disney, right?! I know I do! ESPN is, in a nutshell, a sports broadcasting network that will stream anything sports, 24/7. Different things within sports as well. Things such as entertainment going on within the sports world, whatever interesting that could be going on within teams, players, coaches, locker rooms... When I say, "all things sports," I mean it! So there's that. You might be putting a couple pie...
