All The Hype

To the NFL fans everywhere... We don't have that much longer. We can do it!

I know the questions that are going through your head: Who is really the best player in this draft? Is Bortles better than Manziel? Is Jadeveon Clowney going number one overall? What are the Houston Texans going to do with the very first pick of the 2014 draft? And the one that seems to be the most intriguing... Where in the world is Mr. Football going to end up?

To the best of my ability, I can give you some insight. Mel Kiper Jr. and Todd McShay might be the better ones to answer your questions. They are some sort of mock draft legends, right?

Legendary mock drafters.

Let's start by talking about Johnny Manziel because I am sure that you have not heard enough yet, correct? Everyone knows that he is a top five pick for sure. The Minnesota Vikings might have something to say about that. Minnesota's first pick is at number eight. If he isn't number one then he surely won't be the number two. The St. Louis Rams are sticking by their boy Sam Bradford at the quarterback position. Hey, Jacksonville might be interesting, but Johnny stated that he would rather not be a Jaguar. And then there are the Cleveland Browns... Too unpredictable. After all, the three most notable QBs that the Browns have drafted are Tim Couch, Charlie Frye and Brady Quinn. Yeah, maybe they should stray away from that position for the first round this year. It might even be safe to say that every single team has looked at and possibly considered Johnny Manziel for their first round pick, but where will he go? Todd McShay has him at number 16 to the Dallas Cowboys... 16?! Mel Kiper Jr. has him going seventh overall to the Buccaneers. Anything is possible! Johnny Football may not have won a National Championship, but he is a Heisman trophy winner, can scramble like crazy and is a play maker. He seems to be the most "NFL-ready" QB. I guess we will find out in September.

He looks familiar, doesn't he? I would hope so.

Don't worry... 8 o'clock is right around the corner.

Enough with Johnny Football. Moving on.

Much talk has erupted with the Houston Texans and the possibility of them trading their first overall pick. Will they draft Jadeveon Clowney number one? The Texans went 2-14 last season... Whoever they pick, whatever position, it is going to be a win for them.

To the topic of the dominant defensive end from South Carolina, Jadeveon Clowney. The guy is a straight up beast, a phenomenal athlete. He is designed for the Pittsburgh Steelers defense... I'm sorry, Dick LeBeau, you're picking at number 15. Mr. Clowney will be long gone.

Let's discuss some of the top rated quarterbacks... You know that there other QBs in the draft this year besides Manziel, right? Just a few.

There is Blake Bortles who resembles a Ben Roethlisberger in his build and style of play. Extending plays seems to work for Roethlisberger, but whoever considers Bortles better have some play makers on offense as well who can adjust to this style of play.

Did you hear about that one quarterback who didn't have a very productive pro day due to something about a glove? Teddy Bridgewater's passing percentage was a nice 71% last year, throwing for 3,970 yards. Not too shabby. He had quite the season at Louisville last year, but has he been overlooked due to the hype of Johnny?

Oh, how could I forget about that three-time National Champion, AJ McCarron. He didn't win the Heisman this year and he suffered that devastating loss to Auburn that probably costed him a fourth championship so we forgot all about him, but I sure hope those 32 teams haven't. McCarron is a mature quarterback and has the potential to make one heck of an NFL career.

The first wide receiver to be drafted this year? None other than Sammy Watkins from Clemson. Mel Kiper and Todd McShay both predict that he is off to Cleveland. Watkins had 1,464 receiving yards last season with 12 touchdowns. Again, he's a bargain. Don't forget about Cody Latimer, wide receiver from Indiana. Wait, have you even heard of him? This guy had an outstanding pro day.

One last important question, any guesses on who the Superbowl champion, Seattle Seahawks, are going to pick up? One thing is for certain, they do not need a cornerback. They have the best one in the league! Just ask Micheal Crabtree.

Okay, so I didn't get to cover all of the top 2014 draft prospects and that was very brief insight... Hey, I'm not a McShay or a Kiper Jr.

Anybody else excited to see a few young guys' dreams become reality tonight? That might just be the best part of the NFL draft.

All 32 NFL teams... You are on the clock. Choose wisely.

It is time!

Super Bowl Weeknd

One more game. One last attempt at the drawing board. One last matchup ... for all the marbles, to hoist the Lombardi trophy.  We made it. We made it to the Super Bowl of the weirdest, yet most rewarding, NFL season in history. Maybe our appreciation and enjoyment for the game grew a little deeper this year. And maybe that stems from the thought that there was a high possibility of it being taken away from us. There was truly a point when we did not know if we were going to have an NFL season. No matter the outcome, we get to witness history on Sunday.  Not only is this the first time a team will compete for a Super Bowl title in its home stadium, but it's the first time a player will appear in their 750th Super Bowl.  I had to get at least one joke in.  Much of the hype for this big game has been centered around the quarterback matchup, and rightfully so. Tom Brady could win his seventh ring, at the age of 43 might I add. Patrick Mahomes is the younges...

It's The Rookies For Me

The NFL awards, the NBA awards, the All-Star selection ... how much of it is really ... accurate? Devin Booker initially getting snubbed as an All-Star starter is proof enough for me to realize that the voting system is well, misleading. T.J. Watt missing the mark on NFL Defensive Player of the Year is well, just wrong.  And no, that is not me saying that I do not think Aaron Donald was not deserving of it. However, T.J. should have taken the crown on that. It's not bias, it's just numbers.  So do not come for me.  However, I would be lying if said that we all didn't love to find out who wins these things. It's the sports lover in us. And even though these awards appear to be a wash, they do still become a part of these players' legacies and accolades. This year's most intriguing NBA award is not the Most Valuable Player but the Rookie of the Year. It has been one of those races where the lead runner changes frequently.  It is LaMelo Ball, Tyrese Haliburton, a...

2020 -- GOODbye

I do not plan on this being your typical, cliché publication of "Yay, 2020 is almost over. Let's get to it, 2021." We will see enough of that on our Twitter timelines and Instagram feeds over the next 72 hours. 2020 has had ups and it has had downs, maybe some more than others. You don't need my personal testimony. I am more for sharing sports stories and opinions anyway.  Speaking of ups and downs, what better way to describe the 2020 sports year than that? January alone had a few great ups, but also had one of the biggest downs we as sports lovers would experience all year. It started off with the LSU Tigers capping off an undefeated and incredible season with a National Championship over the Clemson Tigers. Heisman trophy winner Joe (or, JEUX) Burrow threw up an incredible stat line of 463 yards and five touchdowns. On January 14 the WNBA established a groundbreaking collective bargaining agreement (CBA). The new CBA included substantial salary increases, improve...
