We Want You Dak

How many of us have a distaste for the Dallas Cowboys, but an appreciation for Dak Prescott? The whole world has been pulling for him to get that multi-million dollar deal (that yes, he does deserve). The entire sports world and lovers of the sports world felt empathy on Sunday when Dak went down with an apparent ankle injury. Successful surgery was performed Sunday evening and well wishes were sent from all over the world.

In contrast to Alex Smith's injury, it is likely for a player to return from a compound fracture and remain as impactful as they were before. However, no matter how you twist it ... to be out due to injury for four to six months during your franchise tag year is devastating, especially when you are a quarterback that could be throwing over 300+ yards a game. Dak has recorded 42 wins since 2016, ranked third among QBs.

Dak has been a vital voice for mental health awareness and he has always been very open about his story. Dak lost his mother in 2013 to a battle with colon cancer, he battled anxiety and depression while in quarantine earlier this year, and in April of 2020 he received a phone call from his father that his brother died after committing suicide. Jace Prescott, the middle brother of Dak and Tad, passed away on April 24 at the young age of 31. Jace was a large reason for Dak pursuing the quarterback journey.

Dak is now taking on the battle of a season-ending injury. The season that already seemed a little 'off' during a year that has already been so tough for this entire world, has taken a detour for Dak. Sports are a livelihood, they are therapeutic, and to have that ripped away from someone ... who also just so happens to be very, very good at it ... it takes a toll in more ways than one.

Another aspect that comes with sports being a livelihood is the fact that the sports world never fails to be there for one another. Here are just a few examples of players reaching out to the Dallas quarterback:

The sports world is a special place, right? Let's continue to root for Dak holding that special place in Dallas, too. If you have followed Bad Ash for some time then you have heard my thoughts on Jerry Jones ... we won't get into that because a sis could do a whole other blog on that. Anyway, in relation to Jerry (literally), his son Stephen Jones who is the Executive Vice President of the Dallas Cowboys reassures everyone that Dak is still "our future." So make that guarantee. What is the hold up? Take care of your "future." Pay your "future." There is no better time than right now to make sure Dak Prescott is taken care of. A quarterback of such caliber as well as the loyalty in Dak's veins does not deserve to be franchise tagged one year, let alone two (which some believe may happen).

Jerry recently discussed his optimism for Dak and his return, mentioning the "leadership and purpose" that he brings to the organization. So, it is time to pay up. I believe the ball is in Jerry's court and he should begin to brainstorm that long-term, multi-million dollar deal for Dak (emphasis on the long-term portion).

So what is next? The road to recovery of course, but once Dak is healed up and ready to roll he is going to be ready to roll in the dough as well ... for years to come.
We're all rooting for you, Dak. Make that money. It is long overdue.

Today would be a great day to pay Dak ... and to ARREST THE COPS THAT KILLED BREONNA TAYLOR. Equality is the fight.
We are less than 30 days before election day. Get out and VOTE.

Super Bowl Weeknd

One more game. One last attempt at the drawing board. One last matchup ... for all the marbles, to hoist the Lombardi trophy.  We made it. We made it to the Super Bowl of the weirdest, yet most rewarding, NFL season in history. Maybe our appreciation and enjoyment for the game grew a little deeper this year. And maybe that stems from the thought that there was a high possibility of it being taken away from us. There was truly a point when we did not know if we were going to have an NFL season. No matter the outcome, we get to witness history on Sunday.  Not only is this the first time a team will compete for a Super Bowl title in its home stadium, but it's the first time a player will appear in their 750th Super Bowl.  I had to get at least one joke in.  Much of the hype for this big game has been centered around the quarterback matchup, and rightfully so. Tom Brady could win his seventh ring, at the age of 43 might I add. Patrick Mahomes is the younges...

It's The Rookies For Me

The NFL awards, the NBA awards, the All-Star selection ... how much of it is really ... accurate? Devin Booker initially getting snubbed as an All-Star starter is proof enough for me to realize that the voting system is well, misleading. T.J. Watt missing the mark on NFL Defensive Player of the Year is well, just wrong.  And no, that is not me saying that I do not think Aaron Donald was not deserving of it. However, T.J. should have taken the crown on that. It's not bias, it's just numbers.  So do not come for me.  However, I would be lying if said that we all didn't love to find out who wins these things. It's the sports lover in us. And even though these awards appear to be a wash, they do still become a part of these players' legacies and accolades. This year's most intriguing NBA award is not the Most Valuable Player but the Rookie of the Year. It has been one of those races where the lead runner changes frequently.  It is LaMelo Ball, Tyrese Haliburton, a...

2020 -- GOODbye

I do not plan on this being your typical, cliché publication of "Yay, 2020 is almost over. Let's get to it, 2021." We will see enough of that on our Twitter timelines and Instagram feeds over the next 72 hours. 2020 has had ups and it has had downs, maybe some more than others. You don't need my personal testimony. I am more for sharing sports stories and opinions anyway.  Speaking of ups and downs, what better way to describe the 2020 sports year than that? January alone had a few great ups, but also had one of the biggest downs we as sports lovers would experience all year. It started off with the LSU Tigers capping off an undefeated and incredible season with a National Championship over the Clemson Tigers. Heisman trophy winner Joe (or, JEUX) Burrow threw up an incredible stat line of 463 yards and five touchdowns. On January 14 the WNBA established a groundbreaking collective bargaining agreement (CBA). The new CBA included substantial salary increases, improve...
