Football Is Coming

We are dwindling down to the final moments of the NFL offseason... Thank the good Lord.  Do you all have your Fantasy squads ready? All drafts are finished so I hope you all got your dream teams.  I cannot even help but grin as I write this. And no, it is not because Tom Brady is finally serving his four game suspension. (Is Deflategate really about to be over?!) NFL football is about to be back and that simply means that, soon, all will be right in the world again.  Never gets old We just had an amazing college football kickoff weekend, but for me... The real football begins on Thursday night.  This season is going to be a little different. And no, I am not saying this because of the normal trades and cuts and all that jazz. For starters, there were only about 37 guys to retire last year (okay, I am exaggerating).  Jared Allen, Justin Tuck, Charles Tillman, Greg Jennings, Matt Hasselback (18 years strong!), Calvin Johnson, Marshawn 'Beast Mode...

You Never Know What Ya Got Till It's Gone

How Understated Athletes Are Often Overshadowed for Abstaining from the Public Eye  (Shoutout to Andrew Goldsmith for the title) Sports are never-ending so when I say, "This year in sports..." I do not even know where it begins and where it ends. But I will say this, I hope you all have appreciated these last few months that we have had.  Now this is not a blog post of reflection, but I feel as though some things that have happened within our sports world should be touched upon. What drew me to write this you may ask? Well, Serena Williams just won her 22nd Grand Slam and Tim Duncan just announced his retirement. (As if Kobe was not hard enough, Timmy. How could you do this now?) This should look familiar.  It was time for Serena to tie the record for most-Grand Slams and it was time for the great Tim Duncan to hang it up... And it is time that we appreciate what has always been right in front of us.  Is this what the kids call a 'bro...

Out With The Old, In With The New

I am here to end this debate once and for all... Okay. Just kidding.  This kind of debate is like no other. It will go on for an eternity, and then longer. Sorry, I just kind of felt that this picture was necessary. Mirror mirror, on the wall... Who is the greatest basketball player of them all?  Seriously. Nobody lie to themselves. We have all enjoyed this topic of conservation with our coworkers on a slow day at work, correct?  "Hey. Who is in your Top 5?" Cue the rolling of the eyes and the sarcastic chuckles once you begin.  Who is on your Sports Mt. Rushmore? I am not responsible for this Mt. Rushmore (I felt that was vital to say). It may turn into a heated conversation, but those are the conversations that we live for as sports enthusiasts.  Michael over Kobe... Kobe over LeBron... Wait, LeBron over Kobe?  Okay, but Magic and Bill over LeBron.  Steph over ... ? No way. Stephen Curry is only 28 years old. His legacy is ...

Super Bowl of Gambling

Gambling is a form of entertainment. I mean, have you ever played those shiny new slot machines before? They are extremely addicting and a cause for a good time. Gambling is a legitimate source of recreation that is completely for adults. Well, I guess the legitimate aspect could be argued. However, I have a question to those who are feeling argumentative... why is sport gambling so successful? Seriously, look at all of that FUN. Engaging in this playful form of entertainment benefits not only the individual but the economy as well. The New Yorker recently reported that The National Gambling Impact Study Commission estimates over $300 billion are gambled on sporting events annually. Now just imagine if gambling was properly regulated and legalized in all 50 states… the potential revenue generation would be enormous. In a sinking economy any avenue in which to generate revenue has to be considered, right? There are 1.6 billion people who participate in gambling per year....
